New Graduate Program
Empowering new graduate veterinarians to reach their full potential
A mentorship program in which new graduate veterinarians receive timely, individualized, virtual feedback from two seasoned veterinarians. The mentorship is tailored to meet the new veterinarian’s specific needs, and empower them to continue growing early in their career. A veterinarian’s first 1-2 years in practice is extremely important, as it is usually the time when the veterinarian is most excited to learn, most willing to put in the effort, and most able to absorb new information. Most veterinarians enter the workforce eager and ready, but unfortunately, this excitement is often squandered by real-life influencers that may not appreciate a fresh perspective. This can lead to complacency, bad habits, and a false sense of mastery. In addition, many new veterinarians are promised mentorship and soon after, they find themselves alone in the hospital, feeling like they don’t have the support they were expecting.
The Doctors Fernandez want to off-set some of these unfavorable possibilities, and help create a positive change, by mentoring new veterinarians humble enough to realize that there is always more to learn. The Doctors Fernandez are young enough to remember what it was like to be a new graduate, but experienced enough to help a new graduate navigate the day-to-day difficulties. Nothing is “off-limits” with them, as they are willing to discuss difficult things like first euthanasia experiences, conflict with clients or co-workers, demanding medical or surgical cases, loan repayments, and more. By joining our program, the new veterinarian will have quick, virtual access to Doctors Laura and Anthony Fernandez, and can receive responses from one or both veterinarians via text, voice message, videos, or video chat. Longer, virtual meetings are also scheduled when needed based on the topic at hand, and to keep the mentor-mentee relationship strong.
