Dr. Laura Powell Fernandez, DVM
Small Animal Veterinarian - General Practice and Emergency
Fear Free Certified Professional
Born and raised in west-central Ohio, Dr. Laura's love of animals began at an early age while caring for dogs, cats, and horses. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Saint Mary's College, where she also minored in Dance, competed on the equestrian team, and held several leadership roles. After working with laboratory animals at the University of Notre Dame, she attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and completed her clinical training at Oklahoma State University. Although she initially planned to practice mixed animal medicine, her passion for small animal medicine led her back to Ohio, where she has been practicing since 2016.
Since becoming a full-time relief veterinarian in 2024, Dr. Laura has built a reputation for her positivity, empathy, and attention to detail. Her professional interests include internal medicine, dermatology, and animal behavior. As a Fear Free Certified veterinarian, she is committed to creating low-stress experiences for pets, their families, and veterinary teams alike.
Outside of practice, Dr. Laura has a lifelong passion for teaching. With more than 20 years of coaching experience, she enjoys mentoring veterinary students and new graduates while empowering pet owners through education and shared decision-making. She is also a devoted wife and mother of three who loves traveling and exploring new places with her family.

Dr. Anthony Fernandez, DVM
Mixed Animal Veterinarian - General Practice and Emergency
Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner (Equine)
USDA Accredited Veterinarian
Born and raised in Hollywood, Florida, Dr. Anthony developed a lifelong passion for animals after getting his first horse. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from Saint Andrews University, where he competed on nationally ranked hunter/jumper and western equestrian teams. After spending two years as a ranch hand and wrangler on a Colorado dude ranch, he attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts and completed his clinical training at Oklahoma State University. Although he initially planned to specialize in equine podiatry, his clinical experiences inspired him to pursue mixed animal medicine. After earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2017, he moved to Ohio to begin practicing.
Dr. Anthony has practiced mixed animal medicine since 2017, caring for companion animals, horses, livestock, and exotic species. He later completed advanced training at the Chi Institute to become a Certified Veterinary Medical Manipulation Practitioner (CVMMP), allowing him to incorporate chiropractic care into a comprehensive, whole-horse approach to treatment. During veterinary relief work, he primarily provides small animal medicine and surgery but is equally comfortable serving mixed animal practices.
Known for his practical, straightforward approach and calm teaching style, Dr. Anthony is valued by both clients and veterinary teams. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and three children.
In 2024, Drs. Laura and Anthony Fernandez founded Fernandez Veterinary Services, providing veterinary relief, mentorship for veterinary students and new graduates, in-home and on-farm laser therapy, and equine chiropractic care.
Beginning in late 2026, they are taking their practice on the road as they travel full-time with their family, offering relief services across the western United States. Planned service areas for 2026–2027 include Arizona, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, Montana. Licensure will be obtained prior to any shifts worked in these states.
